Today, we are introducing a new topic for our blog posts, affectionately described as, “Ellie’s Heroes.” A hero is defined by courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities. So organizations and individuals who go out of their way to help those in need are whom we would like to recognize and honor as “Ellie’s Heroes.” This week, we would like to highlight Hurricane Irma and Harvey Rescue Organizations who are currently assisting those affected by these devastating natural disasters.
The Humane Society Animal Rescue Team is one of the nation’s most effective animal protection organizations and is working on the front lines of Hurricane Irma & Harvey disaster relief. You can read more about their current rescue and recovery efforts and what you can do to help by visiting their website at https://www.humanesociety.org.
Another noteworthy organization is Hurricane Pet Rescue, whom are hard at work assisting with hands on efforts in disaster areas and offer help to families that have no recourse nor resources to take their pets with them when a disaster strikes. Their mission is to to rescue, assist, re-home and rehabilitate animals and people alike when Mother Nature strikes. Visit their website at https://hurricanepetsrescue.org to see how you can help.
During the recent back to back hurricane disasters of Harvey and Irma, other organizations banded together to provide transportation for animals needing rescue in the effected areas. Groups like the San Francisco SPCA, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, The Milo Foundation and Mad Dog Rescue. are a few of the many organizations out there helping pets and their families in need.
For the entire month of September, Open Door Press & Ellie the Wienerdog will be donating 10% of all sales from our online shop to the Humane Society Animal Rescue Team.
We hope you will join us in supporting one or more of these great organizations who are currently helping those who need it the most.
If you have a rescue story you would like to share or an organization you would like people to become aware of for their good works, please feel free to share on our Facebook, tweet it to @EllieWienerdog or tag us on your Instagram post using @elliewienerdog.
Check back next week for a new blog post on recommendations to consider before, during and after a natural disaster to keep yourself and your pets safely together.
